February 14,15,19,20,22, 2010 - Current Journal
Sunday, February 14, 2010 - I'm going to publish this page
early so that it will actually be on my website on Valentine's
Day.  I did a huge page a couple of years ago displaying all of
the old-time Valentine's that Mammy had received a hundred
years ago!!!!  WOW.  That's a very, very long time!!!

It took me all day to update everything.  I haven't really had time
to do much else but monitor the situation.

It's been really cold here.  In the single digits at night.  When I
get up in the morning, it's always 59 degrees.  Not on purpose
-- that's just where I put the thermostat at night.  It's a
guesstimate so it's interesting that I always manage to find
that certain temp.

Talked to Granny this afternoon.  She told me that Bergy is still
in pain with his back problem.  He does get some relief when
he lays on the bed.  The pain killers seem to be helping with
the pain -- so they are aptly named after all.

Poor Bergy.  First, Micki loses her eye and now there's the
return of the Berg Bad Back attack.  Ouch!!!  see ya later, djb

oh yeah,
Happy Valentine's Day!!
Here's Andrew holding a RED
popsicle and Jarrett is on his back.
"Hey, he's not heavy, he's my
brother."
Monday, February 15, 2010 - If Andrew were still alive, he'd be
24 years old today.  It was only 7 years ago that we celebrated
his birthday -- all of together.  Happy.  Alive.  No one fighting.

So few people remember any more.  It really breaks my heart.  I
know I'm crazy but aren't people supposed to be nice to
mentally challenged persons?  Just a simple, "I'm thinking of
you."  Oh shit.  How many times do I send a card to a dead
person's parent....I used to but I don't any more.

I guess what goes around comes around and I'm just screwed
once again.  I just wanted to be a mother.  And I WAS now I'm
not.  People say, "once a mother, always a mother."  Yeah, well
where the hell are the children I'm supposed to be
mothering????  Dead.  Buried.  Gone.

Left me alone - high and dry.  It seems to be the unfortunate
theme of my life.  How I wish they were here.  ~djb

eclipse that occurred on February 20, 2008.
Friday, February 19, 2010 - I'm trying to get this finished before 6 p.m. when Norton
starts its weekly scan for annoying evil viruses and other attackers in my files!!!

For some reason, I'm less chatty these days than I've been known to be in recent
years.  Maybe I've run out of words... maybe I've already said everything once or twice....

I did manage to get the Remembering page updated to 5 years ago today.  WOW!
That is a long time, isn't it?

Yesterday, I was going to reattach the February wedding page because that was a big
day in Berg History but there were some problems with the speed of this website.  So,
I'm going to do that as soon as I finish typing these words.

It's not quite as cold here as it has been but next week looks pretty darn cold
again....or still.  I'm NEVER warm.

Did you see that Illinois is the worst state in the country for funding its pensions?  The
main question is:  WHAT DID THEY DO WITH ALL THAT MONEY?  It's all part of the
corruption tax.  How can those people look themselves in the mirror every day and
think it's okay to be weasels???  ~djb
HOW TO READ YOUR EYEGLASS PRESCRIPTION:  When you look at your prescription for eyeglasses, you will see numbers listed under the
headings of OS and OD. They are Latin abbreviations; OS (oculus sinister) means the left eye and OD (oculus dextrus) means the right eye.
Occasionally you will see a notation for OU, which means something involving both eyes. In general, the further away from zero the number on your
prescription, the worse your eyesight and the more vision correction you need. A plus sign in front of the number means you are farsighted and a
minus sign means you are nearsighted. These numbers represent diopters, the unit used to measure the correction, or focusing power, of the lens
your eye requires. Diopter is often abbreviated "D."

For example, if your prescription says -1.00, you have one diopter of nearsightedness. This is a fairly mild amount of nearsightedness. If you are
-4.25, that means you have 4 and 1/4 diopters of nearsightedness. This is more nearsighted than -1.00, and requires stronger (thicker) lenses.
Similarly, +1.00 would be a small amount of farsightedness and +5 would be more.

For people who have astigmatism, there will be three numbers in your prescription. The general form for writing these numbers is S x C x Axis
The
S refers to the "spherical" portion o
f the prescription, which is the degree of nearsightedness or farsightedness discussed above.  The C refers
to the "cylinder" or astigmatism,
and can be a negative or a positive number. It measures in diopters the degree of astigmatism that you have. The
bigger this number, the more astigmatism you have.
The Axis is a number anywhere between 0 and 180 degrees. It reveals the orientation of the
astigmatism.   It is not enough to specify how much astigmatism there is; you have to know where the difference in curvature is taking place.

Here are two examples of what prescriptions for eyes with astigmatism could look like:
-2.00 +1.50 x 180  and  +3.50 +3.00 x 45

The first prescription means that the person has 2 diopters of nearsightedness with 1.5 diopters of astigmatism. and an axis of 180 degrees.  The
second prescription means that the person has 3.5 diopters of farsightedness, 3 diopters of astigmatism and an axis of 45 degrees.

Saturday, February 20, 2010 - It's been 9 working days since I ordered my glasses so I hopefully have only one more day to wait.  Right!  The
astigmatism gene lives in our family...both Granny and I have it.  We've been curious about what exactly it means.  I read this morning that normal eyes
are sort of baseball shaped and eyes with astigmatism are FOOTBALL shaped.  So instead of having one point of focus, we have two.  oh boy!  Too
bad we can't see twice as good -- it's the opposite - plus it also causes blurriness.

My Cylinder numbers are +2.00 (OS) and +4.25 (OD).  That's bad and very bad.  The wait for my glasses is getting to be annoying especially since
we're now under ANOTHER
severe weather warning for tomorrow night into Monday.  When they finally call me, I'll have to get out the sled dogs if I
want to get into Wheaton.  Oh did you hear that the city of Wheaton wants to trap and kill the coyotes? They've been eating people's doggies.  Of
course, you always have the idiots who leave out food for the "poor wild animals."  Double dumb!  Stop that.  In fact, I know someone who does it.
Nature is supposed to take care of her own.  That's the cycle of life, eh?

This is it for now.  I hope it's WARM where you are....although it is less cold than it's been.  snow storm ya later, djb
Monday, February 22, 2010 - HAPPY BIRTHDAYS to George Washington, the
father of our country and Eva Leigh, the great-grandmother of Andrew and
Jarrett.  haha

I'm using this page today because I don't want to begin a new page because it
takes so long.  This morning, when I started snooping around in my files, I found
pictures that I had taken of the eclipse of the moon back in 2008.  They're SO cool.

This morning, we have a true winter wonderland outside.  The temperature is just
above freezing, so the snow stuck to all the trees and bushes -- it looks
unbelievable.  I've been waiting for it to lighten up before I take any pictures.  Plus,
both of the cameras had battery situations.  One was completely dead.  The other
low.

I'm going to finish typing this sentence and then I'm off to take some absolutely
beautiful pictures of the gift that Mother Nature gave us during the night.  She's
awesome!!

I put some of the pictures on my blogger blog pages.  Over here, I'm going to put
the cropped moon. Oh boy!  ~djb
