Monday, February 25, 2008 - Guess what? We've got a
!Severe Weather Alert. How unusual is that?? haha Last
night, I heard that we were supposed to get 3 to 6 inches of
snow starting this evening and then it'll snow all night until
noon tomorrow. Will this winter ever end???!!!
Speaking of people from Illinois escaping to warmer climes
- my cousin, Marilyn, and her husband, Chuck, visited my
folks yesterday. The one thing they noticed and remarked
on was the GREEN-ness of the landscape and of course, 82
degrees is much easier to take than 28.
...later this same day - I had to go to the grocery store to lay
in supplies for the coming storm just in case we get snowed
in. They're saying that we're supposed to get "only" 5
inches. So, that's good news.
A week from today is March 3, 2008. It's been five, long, sad
years since Andrew and Jarrett died. It sounds like we're
going to have snow next Monday and the temperature will be
31 degrees for a high. Sounds like a perfect day to hang out
at the cemetery.
see ya around, djb

Tuesday, February 26, 2008 - I just talked to Granny a little while ago. She's scheduled for her CATARACT SURGERY at noon today.
Well, she's supposed to be there at noon. Who knows when they'll actually do the surgery??? You know how that goes....
It's interesting to compare the procedures that have changed since Grandpa had his cataract surgery 25 years ago and even when I
had mine 10 years ago. Grandpa had to be in the hospital for a few days. He had to lie on his back and couldn't move.....had to wear
that damn metal patch with holes in it over his eye for a long time before they took it off. So far, so good for him.
I only had to wear the patch for one day, plus I can see the orange stuff they put on my face and my nose - nice look. It was torture for
me though because I could not have coffee before the surgery. When they asked me what I wanted after I came out of the operating
room, I answered, COFFEE. BLACK. PLEASE. STAT. Thank you.
My right eye was done on December 10th and my left eye was done on December 17th. It was amazing afterward to be able to actually
see again. Good luck to Granny. As I write this, it's almost 1:00 p.m. EST. I hope they're giving her the same medications they gave to
me because I was in la-la land -- so very, very relaxed. But you can't go completely out. I'm not exactly sure why that is. I used to know.
Gotta go shovel the driveway. The sun is out, and apparently we got 6 inches of snow. I couldn't tell. It's all the same amount after a
while. Just a lot of white stuff out there to move around. Bye for now. see ya later, djb

This is me after they took the metal bandage off my eye. For some
reason, I bruised. The other eye didn't bruise at all. I know I had
enough platelets because I told them they had to do a CBC but they
didn't believe me until the doctor told them they had to do it. haha
Here I am the day of my cataract surgery. I was on huge
doses of prednisone and other stuff which is why I look so
puffed-up. Behind my big fat head, you can see Andrew,
Jarrett & Hobbes' stockings hanging by the fireplace.
Here's Andrew and Jarrett outside playing in the snow.
Notice how small the evergreens are. Now, the door on the
shed has been replaced and the fence is up there --- the
apple trees and the boys are gone. But we still have snow.

Wednesday, February 27, 2008 - Granny had her cataract
surgery yesterday and is recovering slowly but surely. She still
has the blurry vision which is kind of annoying.
After ten years, I had forgotten some of the post-operative side
effects. oops. It's called "selective anmesia." You really don't
want to remember everything! It's very scary.
After she mentioned some of the problems to me, I said, "Oh
yeah. I had that." Apparently, some people have the surgery
and they can see perfectly right away. That's not the case with
people in our family. It took a while before I could see clearly
now the rain has gone. haha
Today, I'm going to put some links in (over there on the
right------> ) for the various anniversary pages that I've put
together. One page is old and the pictures are huge.
I used the previous website builder program which was so
different from what I'm using now - the Yahoo sitebuilder. Glad I
found the new one - looks a lot better. Much easier to work with.
Excuse me, it's a technical workshop - I won't bore you with all
the minute details.
Yesterday, I had to shovel the 6 inches of wet snow that Mother
Nature deposited in our driveway -- all by myself. None of my
neighbors came by with their tractors or blowers or throwers --
which I always welcome but never count on.
It wasn't too bad. At first, it was easy. Then, after it got colder
and colder, it was hard to move. But the sun is out now so it
should melt the rest, residue and remainder that's still on the
driveway. Maybe I'll just go out and see how it's doing.
Better go. I've been fiddling around with these pages all
morning long, and I'm extremely famished --- it's noon and I'm
hungry because I know there's some of that citrus fruit salad in
the frig and also a very lovely cauliflower. yummmmm
see ya later. Happy Anniversary to Bergs! bye, djb

Thursday, February 28, 2008 - It's exciting to think that
we get an "extra" day tomorrow! Of course, it
fascinates me no end. How exactly does that work
anyway? I read that they knew about this in 74 B.C.
hmmmm -- very interesting.....
Yeah, I know the reason but I don't understand how
they were able to figure that out without computers
and the internet. Think about how smart those guys
must have been. Simply amazing and amusing.
Just this morning, I read an article that makes it clear
to me - the earth travels around the sun at a rate of
365.25 days per year. So, every four years, we get to
add a day so we're not celebrating Christmas in July.
And poor February has the fewest days, so why not
give it to Mr. Feb. Good idea, smart guys.
Better get going. We're supposed to have more snow
tonight. I wonder how much we're going to get!! Oh
boy. Can't wait for that!!! see ya later, djb

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 29, 2008 - LEAP DAY. Oh boy!!!!
I love weird occurrences like lunar eclipses and Leap
Day, for example. What fun.
I'm trying to decide what kind of wild and wacky thing I
can do so that I'll remember this day. hmmm First
major thing I did was shovel half of the driveway. I'm
planning to go into town so I'm getting ready to finish
the rest of it and put on my skedaddling boots.
The temperature is out of control. It's supposed to
get into the 40's - so maybe I won't have to shovel the
rest of it because the snow will melt it. Good idea.
Stephanie stopped by last night on her way over to
James' house and visited for a while. She had a
class in Cole Hall exactly 24 hours BEFORE the
shooting. OMG. How creepy and scary is that. What
if that little crazzzzzy guy had decided to start shooting
a day early? It gives one pause. see ya later, djb
