Daily Journal - June 11, 13, 15, 16, 2007

Monday, June 11, 2007 - Yesterday was busy, busy, busy all day
long. I barely had time to check the computer, but when I did, I saw a
very nice note from Annette and a surprising pop-in from Laura.
Imagine my delight this morning when I saw a picture of two horsies
on the front page of the Daily Herald. Laura took the picture and
Leslie wrote the story. They're such nice, talented girls. I follow their
work every day in the paper.
For some reason, I keep seeing horses everywhere I turn. There
was a horse movie ending the other night right before the news
came on and that made me cry. Then, of course, there's Barbaro.
On the front page of the Tribune, they have a story about inmates at
a minimum security prison who take care of horses. I won't mention
that place in DeKalb....yikes!
And then, to top it off, Robin sent me the latest picture of Skye. What
a little doll. She is SO CUTE. And I'm not just saying that because of
who I am. I'm saying it, because it's TRUE!!! It's so much fun to see
her growing bigger and getting more aware.
In my life, I'm trying to get the mulch mountain off the driveway so we
can have a clear shot to turn around once again. Easier said than
done! It's very slow and tedious work.
This is a picture (to the right) that I took while I was driving 2 mph.
So, what is WRONG with this picture? A car and a truck driving on
the opposite sides of the road??? Danger, Will Robinson!!
Answer: They were working on Keslinger Road and we had to drive
on the left side. The truck was just sitting there. pretty funny? If you
don't think so, then you don't have a sense of humor like I do. That
could be a good thing, I guess.
I've been out in the yard taking care of business. I don't have
anything to talk about, so I'm not going to put this up on the www yet
until later.....
I still don't have anything to talk about, so I'm just going to finish this
up with nonsense.
We're supposed to have 80's all this week. Isn't that great?
It's finally acting like summer outside.
Better get going and do some more stuff. Bye for now, djb

Wednesday, June 13, 2007 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JUDY!!! I was pretty
sure that today was Judy's birthday, but not 100% so I checked last year,
and it is TODAY. Finally, I got one right. While I was looking for a picture
to pop in here, I found this one of the cousins when they were younger. I
like this one because it has Kathy in it. It's nice to see her face and be
reminded of her. Sometimes, we seem to forget our loved ones who
have died. Not intentionally, but day to day, we don't really do that well.
That's where I come in. To remind and cajole. haha
It's been very hot this week. Hot and dry. Although not real hot, just hot
in the 100% sunny skies. I am NOT complaining, just stating the facts.
My prediction was that as soon as Ron and Liz got their sod installed, it
would STOP raining. And it did. I'm a psychic and I play one on TV.
Things are progressing ever so slowly out in the lawn. I'm trying to get
the mulch in its proper locations so that I can have the driveway sealed.
Good grief, we're sealing everything in sight!!! My little buddy, Pat, called
me the other day to see if it needed to be done. I asked him, "WHERE
have YOU been?" He laughed at me.
He's been doing our driveway for years. So many years, in fact, that the
boys were still alive when he started doing it, and the Bergs were still
taking their annual trip UP north to visit us all. He has a financial
planning company but still did driveways on the side. Now, he's found a
trusted associate to take care of business. whew. That's good for me.
I've got to get outside and move some mulch around. The pile is
diminishing ever sooooo slowly!!!! bye. see ya around, djb
LATE - Friday, June 8, 2007 - HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TO IRENE!!!
Usually, I depend on Granny to remind me of birthdays in the family. For
some reason, it must have been a perfect storm of coincidences that we
both FORGOT her birthday - although we remembered it too early and
then remembered too late. We're SO embarrassed and contrite. Irene
probably won't even see this anyway because she and Howard (and
Chris) are on their way to Long Island for her family's annual Father's
Day picnic this coming Sunday, which is Father's Day.

Friday, June 15, 2007 - There's something about the Ides of June that I like. I'm not sure what it is. Yesterday was Flag Day and yes, I did fly the red,
white and blue all day long. Thank you for asking. This morning, I went over and walked around the block with Donna. She lives on the other side of
Hughes Creek Golf Course. It's a bit more hilly over there compared to our neighborhood. It's very pretty around this area because of all the forests and
trees (and farmland!). I feel sorry for the people living in the new houses WITHOUT any big old beautiful trees. Yesterday, I had to treat a couple more
trees with the tree medicine. I also had to get some stuff to kill the weeds. It's from the same company that makes the tree medicine so it should work well.
Most stuff just kills the grass and the weeds manage to thrive in spite of anything I do. It's hot outside, gotta go water the flowers, djb

Saturday, June 16, 2007 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HOPEY.
You're my BEST friend. THAT is her latest phrase. The
first time she said it to me, I was sort of taken aback.
Then, I heard that she said it to Bergy and everyone else.
Pretty darn cute, if you ask me.
It's VERY HOT here today. Supposed to get to 93. Isn't
that great?! Summer time is here in the country. Love it.
Thought I'd put this picture in because Jarrett's smiling in
this one. Sometimes, he didn't want his picture taken.
Apparently, I was able to convince him to smile at me.
Have a nice Saturday. Have fun. Enjoy your day. The
flowers are all getting to be so gorgeous. Except for the
new growth on the Mr. Lincoln rose that the bunnies or
the deer decided to have for a midnight snack!!! bye, djb
Andrew, Grandpa Burkholder and a SMILING Jarrett!
