Daily Journal - June 10 & 12, 2008
Tuesday, June 10, 2008 - Yesterday, I went to see my
ophthamologist  at 11 a.m. for an unscheduled visit because my
eye was swollen and
red AGAIN.  The shingles infection went
from a small smoldering group of cells into a blazing inferno of
gigantic, unrivaled proportions.  Ay carumba!

I'm back on the antiviral medication - 800 mg - 5 times a day -
for another TEN DAYS.   Unfortunately, I felt like I did two months
and two weeks ago when this all started.  Swollen eye lid, red
eye -- and a general malaise encompassed my entire being --
plus, I just didn't feel very good.

The main reason I knew for sure that I was sickly was that I laid
down in the recliner and fell asleep for TWO HOURS and woke
up at exactly 4 o'clock.
(I'm thinking, "What time is it?")

Today, I feel less bad.  My eye is still red but it doesn't hurt so
I've got THAT goin' for me.  Baby steps.  At one point during the
past 10 weeks, I was almost cured but then it all came back....

On Saturday, in spite of my eye troubles, we did drive up to
McHenry to see Ron and Liz for a nice, relaxing get-together that
also included Bergy and Avis.  Ron's grass is growing like a
weed.  haha!!  But at least, he doesn't have to water it now.

They're getting TONS of rain up there.  In fact, on the way back
home, we ran into several deluges that were so powerful, you
could NOT see the road.  It was very, very scary.  Reminded me
of driving in Florida during the summertime rainy season.

The one extremely disturbing thing that we both noticed were
cars without their headlights on during these storms.  We were
driving for a solid hour with most of in heavy thundershowers.
WHY these idiots do not have their lights on is beyond my
comprehension.  Have they not gotten the word???  duh?

Forget the minor fact that it's the LAW to have your lights on
when the windshield wipers are on, the sad truth is that the
other cars and big trucks can't see you as well in your unlit car.

Better go.  But one of these days, I'll write about the baby deer
who was sleeping near Andrew and Jarrett's candles in the
middle flower bed.  What a hoot.  We're living in the middle of a
wild life preserve.  holy moley!!!  see ya later, djb

Thursday, June 12, 2008 - Yesterday, I went to see my doctor, AGAIN!!!!!
This visit had been arranged after my emergency Monday appointment.  My
eye is still
red but the surface of the eye is looking better to the doctor.
Apparently, the antibiotic drops I've been putting in religiously every three
hours are now causing a toxic effect which in turn causes more redness.

This morning, it started to itch again but that subsequently stopped.  Plus,
the gel I put in at night makes my vision blurry when I wake up.  I've just
decided to put the drops in my eye and ignore it.  whatever.....

Right now, it finally feels better -- not great but better than it has been feeling.

Enough with the medical report.  We're under a
Tornado WATCH. It's just
about 4:30 p.m.  We're under the gun until later tonight.  This is the same
storm that went through the Boy Scout camp last night in western Iowa.

Oh my God.  Those poor darlings who died.  I cried when I saw their faces.
So young and such good boys.  Why don't some drug-dealing lowlife gang
members ever get hit by tornadoes?  Why does it have to be good kids who
are doing clean, drug-free, productive activities?  Makes NO sense to me.

Why? -- - the question with NO answer....  God bless those sweet boys and
their families.  They were doing something they loved.  I guess if you have to
die, it should be that way.  If I get hit by a tornado today and die a tragic
death, my last day won't be in vain because I spent a good portion of the late
morning and early afternoon planting flowers.  They look gorgeous.  bye, djb
Sunday, June 8, 2008 - Going back in time --- it's the only way I
can tell this weird story properly.

Around 3:30 a.m. (Sunday morning), I awoke to the sound of
something falling down.  Since I didn't hear glass crashing ---
like someone was breaking a window and coming into our
house uninvited, I figured it wasn't that important, so I went
back to sleep.  yawn.........

In the morning, I came downstairs and found Jarrett's prize
winning drawing (from second grade)
ala Rousseau, on the
floor, laying face up with the glass intact.  So, that's what fell.

How it flew ten feet onto the hard oak floor without the glass
breaking is almost impossible to comprehend -- very strange...
and I still don't know if it was a message from Jarrett or not??

But later that same day, (about 6 p.m.) Bob and I went to
Blackberry Inn for dinner because I was exhausted and
couldn't even put a pizza in the oven.  whew!

Tracy was working in the back dining room and said that her
daughter, Hannah, was being dropped off at 8 and since Tracy
was working until 8:30, we'd finally get to chat with her.

I've rarely met any child going into 4th grade who was so
charming, self assured and articulate to the point of thinking,
"why it's a grown-up in a little person's body."

ASIDE:   Although once I wrote those words, I remember the
little girl at the flower tent last week who was also going into
4th grade.  She sold me three plants and completed the sale
all by herself.  Hmmmmm - that's weird.

Anyway, Hannah was absolutely delightful and regaled us with
tales of grade school shenanigans, stories about her friends
and teachers.  That one was good - this one was not so good.

Then, she said, "Oh, I had Mrs. Hasenauer for second grade."
I said, "WHAT?????"   You  had Mrs. Hasenauer for second
grade???  For real????  Yes, for real.

On the bottom of Jarrett's drawing are the words:
 Jarrett 2-H

The H stands for Hasenauer.  I don't know what it means.  I
just thinks it's VERY weird that painting fell, the glass didn't
break and I meet someone's child for the first time who had the
same second grade teacher as Jarrett - all on the SAME day.

Coincidence?  I don't think so.  I'll get back to you if I ever find
out what it REALLY means.......  bye, djb
