Daily Journal - June 12, 13, 14, 15, 2006
Monday, June 12, 2006 - Bob and I went to Kevin's graduation
party last night. It was such a nice party - very, very good food,
excellent pastries (of course, cake) and interesting and charming
guests (and guest of honor!). Plus, a lot of the classmates were
there. Nice to see them. I hadn't seen some of the kids in years -
they've grown tall. We needed about 20 more degrees so they
could go into the swimming pool. This weather is beyond crazy...
When I look at the picture of Kevin and Jarrett, it reminds me of
the brouhaha surrounding the coat that Jarrett's wearing. Every
once in a while, Jarrett couldn't find it because Andrew was
wearing it. The first time Jarrett was looking for the missing coat,
he said, "Andrew's wearing it." And I said, "Why would Andrew be
wearing YOUR coat?" So, I called Andrew and asked him - sure
enough he was wearing it. Of course, I had to WASH it before
Jarrett would wear it again. That makes me chuckle.
After the accident, I found the coat - neither one of them were
wearing it that day. It's one of the things I'll never get rid of. ~djb

Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - When you watch the video that Laura
produced (in the Daily Herald), notice the picture of my hand touching
the plaque that reads: "In memory of Andrew and Jarrett
Burkholder" - the ring on my right hand has their birthstones in it.
Bob got it for me for one of the holidays - can't remember which one -
after a while, they all blur together into the same day. I have watched
the video story many times and never noticed the juxtaposition until
yesterday. It's very cool.
I haven't gotten the newspapers yet, maybe I'll go outside and see if
Mama Robin's eggs have hatched yet. That will surely make me
smile. She's so protective of her children - like I was. I'm just like a
bird.
After spending time over at Judy's house one time, Jarrett came home
and said, "No offense, Mom, but Judy is the best mom in the world." I
had to agree with him. She the best mom for boys because she "gets"
it.
One time, I needed an IV infusion of gamma globulin (it took 8 hrs to
drip in my veins), so Judy took Andrew and Jarrett to the video arcade -
even though Judy's boys (Joseph, Anthony, Phillip) were in school and
they couldn't even go. This meant that I didn't have to worry about the
boys making noise and upsetting the cancer patients in the chemo
room which is where they put me. I think of that time when I was so
sick, it seemed like it would never end - but it did. Amazing! Thanks
J-Man! I KNOW Jarrett had something to do with my remission.
Okay, so I'm running out of time to get this going. I have to take care of
business this morning. Bob went to work. I'm still a bum. If I got a job,
I'd probably get fired in two days because I'd be annoyed with
incompetent people. Now, THAT cracks me up!!!!!!
Happy Birthday, Judy. I know your mom and dad are out there with you.
Have a GREAT day if you read this today. If you read this tomorrow,
hope you had a WONDERFUL birthday. bye. see ya later, djb

The four amigos
Phil, Jarrett, Anthony, Andrew, Joseph - I inserted
Andrew and Jarrett's pictures between the boys - I told
them I was going to do it - still at the 50th anniversary.
Wednesday, June 14, 2006 - Today was a very busy day! I got up early and
took out the garbage. Then, I went into the grocery store to buy STUFF. That
took longer than I anticipated. Once I got home, I had to turn around and go
into Elburn to the post office. When I got home, I had to vacuum the pool.
Everything takes a long, long time!!! We have so much traffic around here.
In the midst of my vacuuming, Gayla and Zoe & Hope arrived. After a little bit,
Karen and Bryar arrived. Gayla had to go to the toy store to get some
presents for Hopey's birthday (6/16), so the girls stayed here with Karen,
Bryar & me.
Zoe and Bryar went in the pool. We're not sure how they did that because it
was SO COLD. In the middle of the afternoon, Derek stopped by on his way
from Aurora to somewhere near Great America. Then, Gayla got back from
her travels.
We had earlier used a diversion on Hope when she left. It was pretty funny.
She didn't realize her mom was gone for a while, & then when she did, she
cried for about a minute. Quickly got over it. The thing that I notice after
being around the little ones is how exhausting it is - they never stop moving
or doing something. It's incredible.
It's totally all-consuming of one's mental faculties being around youngsters
near the swimming pool. Karen and I are maniacs about "pool safety." At
least, we're on the same page in that regard. Slow feet are happy feet! (We
used tell her that when she was young at our pool in North Aurora!!)
We had a great time! It'll be nice when the pool gets a tad warmer. It was 73
today. Quite refreshing. I don't get in until it creeps up to 80 - that's my
minimum temperature (otherwise my fingers are blue)
Better go. This is late, but you know what they say, "better late than never!"
Thanks a lot for that gem. bye for now, djb
P.S. That picture of the tractor reminds me that I named my tractor. I'm
calling her "Juanita Querida." That means John Deere in Spanish - but it's a
feminine form of John - thus, the choice of Juanita. Isn't that cute (or loco)?

to DeKalb yesterday.
Lupine in my flower garden behind the fence
Thursday, June 15, 2006 - Doesn't that sound like a familiar day.
There's something about this day - I don't know what? In a week,
summer begins but tomorrow, we're going to get to 90 degrees.
Isn't that a riot?! Maybe I'll be able to get in the swimming
pool?????????
There's a situation with mama Robin. I won't go into it but I think
she's flown the coop. I removed the pictures of her and her nest
that I put in last night. It's not good. Don't ask and I won't tell.
Yikes!
Right now, I have to do some stuff, so I'll talk to you later. I put in
the picture of the lupine in yesterday's spot (down below) instead of
the bird and the nest. I'm leaving some space for a future picture -
maybe this afternoon.
bye for now, djb
Phillip, Anthony, Andrew, Jarrett, Joseph - on the hammock
many years ago in Harvard IL. This is the picture that I was
looking for a few days ago.
6/15 - later - When I went into the post office on Wednesday to mail some stuff, that guy from the Elburn Herald asked me if he
could ask me a question. I asked what it was and this is what is was. Then, he took my picture and I guess I was his third lady,
so he was finished there. This is the second time I've been in the Talk of the Town. I must look like Mrs. Normal or something.
Note to Jessica: I am Donna Berg and also Burkholder. I know it's confusing. Trust me, when Andrew and Jarrett were in
school, they never knew what to call me!!! I liked it in 1994, when some people called me, "Coach." That was cool. bye, djb
