Monday, June 26, 2006 - I don't know where to start.  Last night, we
had thunderstorms -
AGAIN!  I'm so over those storms, and the only
reason I know it was storming was because I couldn't sleep since I
was coughing my head off  - it's related to my allergies, etc.
Anyway, I took some cough medicine which eventually helped me to
stop coughing and went to sleep - not a good sleep.  I'm one of those
people who
HAS TO SLEEP all night or I get cranky.  YEars ago, when I
was taking some seriously strong medications, the only word that
could wake me up was, "
Mom."  (seriously, that's true)

When I finally woke up, I got some coffee and went outside on the deck
to see how much rain was in the rain gauge
(without a rain gauge, I
wouldn't be a real Berg, I'd just be a
"poser").  We had between 1/2
and 3/4 inches - it seemed like a LOT more.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw an orangey flash run across the
driveway on the other side of the shed (reminiscent of Hobbes).  WOW!
Maybe there's a new kitty in the neighborhood.  So, I watched for the
critter to emerge on the other end, and lo and behold, it was a
RED FOX
running into the raspberry patch - I guess it's a patch?

Then, the birdies went over and started screeching at the fox, just like
they used to do to Hobbes.  So, I guess there could be little foxes living
in the raspberries.  I don't know - and I'm not going to find out.  It's MY
first fox sighting of the year.  After all, this is the
Fox Valley

Tomorrow is the one year anniversary of Grandma Burkholder's death.
It seems longer than that, and yet it seems like yesterday.  We still have
a message from her on our answering machine.  It's fun to hear her
voice from time to time.  After she left our house the last time I saw her
alive, she called to say that she found her
red shoe under a chair.  God
bless, Grandma.  God bless Grandpa and Andrew and Jarrett.

Tuesday, June 27, 2006 - Grandma died a year ago today.  We're going out
to Chana to visit her grave today.  We paid for their stone out of respect and
love - two years AFTER Grandpa died so when we went to the cemetery we
could find where he was buried.  Now Grandma is with him.

People still don't
GET it.  It isn't about money - none of this bullshit is about
money.  It's about
LOVE and RESPECT.   Even one of the 10 Command-
ments (
notice that they're not called the 10 Suggestions) says to Honor your
Father and Mother
.  I'm sure Grandma is having a great time in heaven.

Kevin leaves for the Army tonight.  That's going to be very strange.

It's going to rain
AGAIN.  Rainy days and Mondays....  Yesterday, I didn't
speak to a single person until Bob came home.  Isn't that weird?  djb

Wednesday, June 28, 2006 - I'm sitting out by the pool with some of Jarrett's classmates.  Jacqui (came and went), Colleen, Lindsay
and Jeannette are still here.  Gotta go.  It's sunny.  It's nice.  It's not too hot.  I'm loving this weather.  bye, djb

later Wednesday (6/28) - So, the girls left about 4.  We had a nice time
sitting out in the sun.  They talk about stuff and I listen.  haha  Then, I
came in and downloaded my pictures that I took last night when we
went in to say good bye to Kevin.  He's eating "mince."  It's a version of
the Scottish mince pie.  I checked it out on the internet and it's kind of
like Shepherd's pie.  Of course, I had to have some.

This afternoon, Colleen got a call from Kevin.  He's still in Chicago!  He
didn't leave today because THE COMPUTERS WERE DOWN.
Interesting development, I'd say.....hmm

I thought I'd finished this earlier.  oops.  It's late (10:10 pm) but I'm
going to put it up now - finally.  Better late than never, I always say.
bye for now, djb

Thursday, June 29, 2006 - Today's the day that everyone starts leaving
town for the
BIG 4th of July holiday.  Of course, there will be huge traffic
jams on the tollways leading north to Wisconsin.  The other day, I heard
that there was a 7 mile backup at the toll booth coming into Illinois.  It
always puzzles me as to why there are toll booths anyway.
They seem to
spend
more money trying to weasel a few coins out of every driver than if
they just dropped that idea and let people drive their cars.  Although I
suppose it is a way of getting people to
SLOW DOWN.  No one wants to
go slow
(or even drive the speed limit) and smell the roses.  Fast, faster,
fastest... zoom zoom

When we were going over to the cemetery on Tuesday, traveling west on
the tollway, we noticed some sort of construction project out in the middle
of
NOWHERE.  I'm sure Uncle Bergy knows what that's about.  It was
between DeKalb and Rochelle.  It looked like they were putting up a toll
booth in the middle of the cornfields.  That's like trying to get blood out of a
turnip truck!!!
(I crack myself up!!!)

A long time ago, when I lived in Florida, I had this thought when I was
driving to work on I-4 that somewhere along the line, we missed the boat.
Why are all these people in their vehicles alone driving to work every day,
the same way, the same time?  Yes, I WAS one of them, that's what
provoked my thoughts!  I would've taken the bus or train but there weren't
any around.

How can it be that we are able to do such awesome things in the world
(e.g., the www), but we can't figure out how to eliminate "traffic jams?"  We
can't figure out how to stop polluting our environment?  Why do people
still litter?  Didn't they get the memo?  Why do people still throw their
cigarette butts on the ground?  Haven't they heard of Altoid tins?  Why are
there mosquitoes?  Sorry boys!   We always said,
"NO why questions!"

I'm finished ranting.  Have to mow the grass today.  It's going to be 80
degrees.  It can hardly get better than that.  Unless it's 82.  see ya later, djb

chess board.  I was looking for this picture!!!!
Friday, June 30, 2006 - I'm running so late!  I have to put down
the mulch I got this morning on Andrew and Jarrett's pond
garden.  Yesterday, I took a little break while mowing the grass
out back and pulled weeds in the garden.  Now, I'm almost
finished with my project.  It looks
MUCH BETTER!!

Many thanks to Annette for the heads up on that tollway thing.
What an odd thing to do.  It looks like it cost
MORE than a
million dollars because every project costs at least a million!

We're finally going to get some hot weather, but also the threat
of thunderstorms exists.  Doesn't matter, as long as we can
swim without freezing or turning blue and I can slide!!!!!

Better go.  Tomorrow, I can start a new page.  I don't have
enough time to do it now.  see ya later, djb
